A Lesson Learned...

I may not have had such an appreciation for this in the past, but I seriously love education. It may sound ironic coming from a 17 year old teenager but oh well. I get in bad moods sometimes which my parents call my "Eeyore Moments". They don't last long but I absolutely despise feeling that way and some moods seem to linger forever. Last week in school though, through the combination of both my Senior Seminar and FCD courses I learned a way to get rid of them that seems to be working. In order to fly, Peterpan tells Wendy and the others that they must think happy thoughts. This works on the same premise, but adds another step. My newly acquired  technique to feel happy: Breathe deeply and think of some of your happiest moments.

For those who may care-While seemingly simple, this technique has a lot of depth behind it. The increased oxygen from the lungs allows for an invigorated rush in your brain cells (sometimes called euphoria). Drugs such as cocaine and heroine have the same affect but I'm guessing you're not too interested in becoming an addict any time soon- so just try breathing! In addition, by thinking of your happy moments, extra endorphins are released.  The combination of the oxygen and endorphins cause a chemical reaction with the neurotransmitters in the brain which decrease pain and therefore your mood changes! Of course working out or exercising will do the same thing which is another technique that I use. If you only have a minute to turn 'the frown upside down', try breathing and some happy thoughts!
